An important part of a child’s healing process is play. When children have access to play and activities, they may feel less anxious about being in the hospital. Play also allows children to grow, develop, and communicate, just as they would if they were not a patient.
The Hoops Family Children’s Hospital Playground provides a place to play and is equipped with musical instruments, climbing structures and tools to encourage imagination. The playground is located below the HFCH entrance on Hal Greer Boulevard. For security reasons, the park is not open to the general public and is accessed through a locked gate. The playground is specifically for patients of the HFCH.
The playground is open seasonally and is scheduled by the Child Life Department or leadership of the Pediatric Unit. Children must be accompanied by a staff member at all times. Eating, drinking and smoking are not permitted in the playground.
For more information about the playground, please talk to your child’s nurse or the Child Life Specialist.
